Message from the Director

Another year has passed for our organization and what an incredible year it was! We were able to add some new faces to our workforce that have contributed to our residents in various ways. I would like to take a moment to reflect on the employees at Family Refuge Center. If there is anything that a pandemic has taught me as a leader, is that appreciation for resiliency is a necessity.

The first group of employees that are deserving of recognition are the employees at the Anne Blair Emergency Shelter. These individuals work tirelessly around the clock providing direct services to persons who have experienced various victimizations. This includes individuals, families, seniors and even service animals. Shelter settings are challenging environments and often led to position vacancies and difficulties finding prime candidates for these vacancies. There was never a time that the employees within the shelter were unwilling to step in when needed. They worked long hours and experienced exhausting scenarios, but always did so with compassion and empathy. It’s employees such as this group that truly make the world go round!

The second group of employees are the advocates within our main office and our outreach offices. These individuals are hit head on each day with phone calls, guest visits, court dates, hospital accompaniments, support groups and simply being a shoulder for victims to lean on. On average, advocates can serve 5 or more clients in a days’ time. Sometimes we gather as a group to reflect on each other’s experiences. Listening to the advocates share their experiences of direct care service and witnessing the sparkle in their eye from knowing they are truly changing the lives of the individuals they serve, is what makes coming to work each day a joy!

The third group of employees is our Visitation Coordinator and our Client and Youth Services Coordinator. These two work hard each day to mold the minds of our youth. From supervised visitation, soft exchanges between parents, enrichment, and empowerment activities with the youth and a large does of laughter and happiness that these children may have forgotten exists. Through their advocacy, they are making significant strides in emotional growth of each child affected by domestic violence!

The last group of employees is the Leadership Team and our Administrative Assistant. As a leader, it is important to know that in your absence the organization will sustain. The FRC Leadership Team has come together and begun creating streamlined processes and incorporating their ideas that have been left unspoken into day-to-day operations to push this organization forward. The creativity and inspiration that this group brings to the table is worthy of all the prais!. Our Administrative Assistant is the first voice heard on received phone calls and the first face noticed when guests visit our location. Her introduction is always warm and welcoming and has received numerous compliments from the community on how kind she is!

Here’s to 2022 and continued personal and professional growth of every employee at FRC, including myself! We have major goals that we are going to accomplish this year and the best part about those goals is accomplishing them as a TEAM and as a FAMILY!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Moore, MA
